Art with a Heart’s mission is to enhance the lives of people in need through visual art.

Art with a Heart brings its visual art programs to abused, neglected and abandoned children; homeless people; battered women and their children; pregnant adolescents; mentally and physically disabled adults; low-income senior citizens; elementary, middle, and high school students; youth in after-school programs; and children receiving long-term health care.

Through Art with a Heart’s decade of community presence, Baltimore’s underserved children, youth, and adults have access to positive and productive programming, caring and nurturing adults on a consistent basis, and the chance to embrace new ideas and skills in a safe and structured environment.

Program Assistant

Unpaid/ Internship/ Start Date: TBD

Position Description:

The Program Assistant Intern is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Art with a Heart program in addition to working with a site (or sites) of the intern’s choosing.

An internship at Art with a Heart takes place in the office and in the field.

In the office, an intern can expect to:

• Manage and distribute art supplies to teachers.

• Make examples of art projects.

• Assist in inventory and organization of supply room.

• Work with the Out-of-School-Time Coordinator in the development of new art projects.

• Help out with miscellaneous office duties, i.e. answer phone, make photocopies, and send out faxes.

• Process class evaluations and work in program database.

In the field, an intern can expect to:

• Work with one of our 30 sites, in and around the Baltimore area.

• Cultivate connections with participants and sites.

• Create a project to be used with his or her population

Qualifications:

• A keen interest and personal commitment to Art with a Heart’s mission.

• Personal qualities of commitment, integrity, and sensitivity to the needs of others.

• Be culturally sensitive and able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.

• Have college-level coursework in the visual arts, education, social work or family studies fields.

• A positive attitude in the workplace.

Summer Job Program Assistant

Unpaid/ Internship/ Start Date: June

Position Description:

The Summer Job Program started June 2006 when Art with a Heart expanded its Art to Market program. Participants of this program meet every day for four to six weeks and produce marketable works of art while learning job skills. The art products are sold at heARTwares, Art with a Heart’s social enterprise store, with the proceeds split between Art with a Heart and the community in which the work was created. This experience not only provides tangible work opportunities for the participants who create, price and sell their items, but also allows them the opportunity to give back to their community. Students receive a daily stipend and are taught job readiness and workplace skills.

The Summer Job Program Intern is responsible for assisting the Program Director and Assistant Program Director with the preparation and the daily operations of the Art with a Heart Summer Job Program, as well as post-Summer Job Program tasks and procedures.
