Apparel Design

Paid/ Full Time/ 2017

A&F designers create high quality, aspirational product for each of our unique lifestyle brands. The designer’s role at A&F is to take the product from initial concept through the production of the garment. Designers stay on top of emerging trends through shopping the market, researching vintage, and staying in tune with our customers. This creative research fuels the big picture trend and mood direction at the beginning of each season. Designers focus on every aspect of product development, from fabric and trim selection to editing how the garment fits on live models.

Training Program
The Design Training Program is an intensive multi-week orientation that will build upon your formal design education and give you the tools necessary to apply that knowledge and experience here at A&F. Through hands-on classroom sessions and on-the-job training, you will develop a solid foundation of the designer’s responsibilities throughout the product cycle. At the conclusion of the program, trainees take on full responsibilities of an Assistant Designers and are expected to make an immediate impact in their product area.

Apparel Designer Responsibilities
• Product Design – Responsible for creative input for a specific product category
• Trend Spotting – Research and shop to identify emerging fashion trends and vintage samples
• Collaboration – Work with cross-functional team (Merchandising, Design, Sourcing, Technical Design, as well as factories/vendors) to ensure that the design vision is being carried out with integrity
• Presentation Skills – Present designs and vocalize point of view regarding relevant business and market trend findings

Many of the most successful design leaders at A&F were recruited directly from design schools in the U.S. and around the world. Starting off as Assistant Designers with a great deal of responsibility from the on-set, over time designers can expect to gain experience across multiple brands and product categories. Graphic Design

Paid/ Full Time/ 2017

An A&F Graphic Designer is responsible for creating on-apparel artwork. Through vintage shopping, marketing and internet research, Graphic Designers develop seasonal graphic concepts for a wide range of apparel categories. After a concept is initialized, graphic designers develop cutting edge print, appliqué, and embroidery techniques in each brand’s handwriting. Graphic Designers partner with Design and Merchandising to put the most trend-right graphics into our stores.

Training Program
The Graphic Design Training Program is an intensive multi-week orientation that will build upon your formal design education and give you the tools necessary to apply that knowledge and experience here at A&F. Through on-the-job training and hands on classroom sessions, you will develop a solid foundation of the designer’s responsibilities throughout the product cycle. At the conclusion of the program, Assistant Graphic Designers are expected to make an immediate impact in their area.

Responsibilities:
• Trend Spotting – Research and develop existing and emerging concepts and trends
• Graphic Design – Translate ideas from concept into actual, on-brand graphic packages
• Collaboration- Work with Apparel Design in creating graphics for specific brand/product category and partner with Merchandising in order to get the product delivered on time and on budget
Career Path
Many of the current Graphic Design Directors climbed the ranks after joining the company as Assistant Graphic Designers. After learning the ropes and gaining a better understanding of on-apparel graphic design techniques, Assistant Graphic Designers are given the responsibility of owning multiple graphic packages from concept of final design. Once familiar with the graphic production process, graphic designers start to take ownership in mood and inspiration gathering. As designers grow through the A&F career path, engaging leadership and creative vision-setting become increasingly important for success. The opportunity for learning and career growth is immense.

Qualifications

• Degree in Graphic Design, Advertising Graphics, Illustration or relevant field
• Passion for the A&F Brands and an interest in apparel graphics
• Strong artistic sense and ability to create original artwork on a computer
• Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• A fine arts background and/or printmaking experience is a plus
• Solid Computer skills (Illustrator, Photoshop)
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
