REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer

Young Audiences is seeking enthusiastic applicants to work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Arts Integration Specialist in planning all aspects of the Young Audiences Summer Arts and Learning Academies for the summer of 2017. This intern will gain knowledge in summer school design, curriculum design and implementation, staff hiring, partnership development, financial and logistical workings of partnering with Baltimore City Public Schools and running summer school sites. The intern may collaborate with site based staff, including teachers, teaching artists, teaching artist assistants, and all contract staff (i.e., Playworks). This intern will gain experience working with different stakeholders including district level administration (i.e., Baltimore City Schools Office of Extended Learning and Office of Fine Arts), food and nutrition, transportation, student support and safety, and communications.

Baltimore City Schools Summer Arts and Learning Academies operated by Young Audiences Arts for Learning Maryland (YA) will be an action-packed, full-day, five-week program that introduces students to a wide variety of art forms – from illustration, to spoken word, to percussion, to drama and dance—and gives students a chance to work alongside students from across the city and be taught by professional artists. Daily literacy and math classes will be co-taught by a teacher and professional teaching artist allowing students to experience reading, writing and math like never before…through the arts! Students will have the opportunity to imagine, create, and express who they are through the arts and try on art forms they never imagined. Students will travel to different arts destinations across the city, and their work will be celebrated through a student showcase on the final day of the program. YA will host four Summer Arts and Learning Academies throughout the City, locations TBD. Each site is expected to accommodate 10 classrooms with 25 students in each for a total of 250 students per site.

 Work hours our flexible between 9:00AM-5:00PM Monday through Friday
 Ideal candidate will work 10-15 hours per week.
 Compensation: College credit OR a small stipend will be provided. (If seeking college credit, it must be worked out in advance by the applicant and his/her college)

 Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer on all administrative and logistical aspects of the planning process.
 Support the Arts Integration Specialist in curricular planning aspects of the program.
 Work closely with Young Audiences and Baltimore City Schools stakeholders to ensure smooth operation of the site including teaching and learning (Office of Extended Learning and Office of Fine Arts), food and nutrition, transportation, student support and safety, and communications.
 Research potential field trip destinations that support instruction and introduce students to unique arts experiences.
 Coordinate and organize potential staff resumes, and assist in scheduling interviews.
 Assist in widely distributing job postings to ensure YA attracts the best candidates for all positions.
 Order and organize classroom and site based supplies.
 Assist with the organization and management of student applications and notification.
 Develop systems for organizing teacher support material including curricula, lesson plans, evaluation plans etc.
 Setup Student Management System, parent text notification systems etc.
 Assist in the distribution of marketing materials to students and families
 Coordinate with and provide support for various partnerships and external stakeholders.
 Submit verbal and written reports as required.

 Passion for and knowledge in the arts and education is a must!
 Strong communications, verbal, written and social media skills.
 Strong organizational skills.
