Visual Experience Design Intern

We have a roster of fantastic projects in front of us and are looking for passionate graphic designers with a strong point of view. As a member of the Visual Experience Department, designers are responsible for developing and executing impactful design solutions for a diverse range of interdisciplinary projects.

We are currently seeking a Graphic Design Intern with strong 2D design and some experience, if only in the classroom, in placing graphic design in three-dimensional space. Any experience in motion graphics and Interaction Design is helpful. Our graphic design work goes in museums, public and online spaces. We are growing into having our graphic design drive the engagement visitors have with the work.

The Graphic Design intern will work closely with Local Projects’ Project Manager(s) and Creative Director(s) to achieve specific graphic elements for project(s). Our past work includes projects for the National September 11 Memorial Museum, SFMOMA, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, as well as a variety of Civic and Cultural sector clients. These projects will demand a very special individual who can work autonomously but also takes direction well and who can combine passion with craft to create something extraordinary.

You must be in a degree-granting program for graphic design, or a graduate of one, and work regular work hours to at the downtown New York City office to work with the teams.


– A design degree (graphic, interaction, communication, media design, or a related field) or currently pursuing one
– Excellent design skills exhibited in an impactful portfolio
– An interest for developing unprecedented solutions that actively engage audiences
– A demonstrated aptitude for establishing design system
– The ability to think conceptually and express ideas visually, verbally and in writing
– A passion for typography
– A solid understanding or demonstrable interest in user-experience and interaction design
– Interest in designing for physical spaces and/or interactive media
– Strong technical and organizational skills
– Ambitious attitude and a strong point of view
– An empathetic nature with an open, positive mindset
– The ability to collaborate in teams, to work autonomously and to take direction from project leads
– An awareness of contemporary trends in technology, art, and design

Early Childhood Educator

Are you looking for a new and different experience every day? Do you enjoy working with people? If so, join the Kids Room team. Engage our youngest visitors with fun hands-on activities and interact with children birth to age eight and their families as they learn through play in our dynamic museum environment. Responsibilities include: working with the general public, and maintaining a clean and safe early childhood exhibit space. Ability to exercise outstanding problem solving skills and experience with young children in a group setting are both highly desired. The museum is open seven days a week and we are looking for availability weekdays and weekends.
