Job Description:

Our Design Consultants are the heart and soul of the Company: they meet with prospective clients in their homes to design and sell custom organization systems and solutions for their closets, home offices, pantries, and other spaces. During the in-home consultation, the Design Consultant assesses space and needs, and then uses Closet America’s sophisticated software design tools to create digital renderings of custom organization systems. It’s the Design Consultants job to wow the prospective client with a functional and beautiful design so that we can move forward with a sale and get to work in our own manufacturing facility in Landover, MD.

Qualifications:

Previous sales experience or exceptional ability to build strong rapport with clients and establish a referral client base
Exceptional spatial awareness with the ability to visualize design solutions and how they will work in the limited space of a closet or storage area.
A degree in interior design or a related field is a big plus
The ability to perform precise, detailed, and accurate field measures in a residential/commercial environment
Proficiency in PC design applications, previous CAD, 20/20, or cabinet vision experience a big plus
A problem solver who can deliver design solutions to exceed client expectations
Great communication skills and professional presence
Create, build and nurture successful relationships with our customers

The designer’s role at A&F is to take the product from initial concept through the production of the garment. This creative research fuels the big picture trend and mood direction at the beginning of each season. Designers focus on every aspect of product development, from fabric and trim selection to editing how the garment fits on live models.

Training Program
The Design Training Program is an intensive multi-week orientation that will build upon your formal design education and give you the tools necessary to apply that knowledge and experience here at A&F. Through hands-on classroom sessions and on-the-job training, you will develop a solid foundation of the designer’s responsibilities throughout the product cycle. At the conclusion of the program, trainees take on full responsibilities of an Assistant Designers and are expected to make an immediate impact in their product area.

Apparel Designer Responsibilities
• Product Design – Responsible for creative input for a specific product category
• Trend Spotting – Research and shop to identify emerging fashion trends and vintage samples
• Collaboration – Work with cross-functional team (Merchandising, Design, Sourcing, Technical Design, as well as factories/vendors) to ensure that the design vision is being carried out with integrity
• Presentation Skills – Present designs and vocalize point of view regarding relevant business and market trend findings

Graphic Design

An A&F Graphic Designer is responsible for creating on-apparel artwork. Through vintage shopping, marketing and internet research, Graphic Designers develop seasonal graphic concepts for a wide range of apparel categories. After a concept is initialized, graphic designers develop cutting edge print, appliqué, and embroidery techniques in each brand’s handwriting. Graphic Designers partner with Design and Merchandising to put the most trend-right graphics into our stores.

Training Program
The Graphic Design Training Program is an intensive multi-week orientation that will build upon your formal design education and give you the tools necessary to apply that knowledge and experience here at A&F. Career Path
Many of the current Graphic Design Directors climbed the ranks after joining the company as Assistant Graphic Designers. After learning the ropes and gaining a better understanding of on-apparel graphic design techniques, Assistant Graphic Designers are given the responsibility of owning multiple graphic packages from concept of final design. Once familiar with the graphic production process, graphic designers start to take ownership in mood and inspiration gathering.
