Employer Profile: Food & Water Watch, Baltimore, MD

foodandwaterwatch.org

Food & Water Watch champions healthy food and clean water for all. We stand up to corporations that put profits before people, and advocate for a democracy that improves people’s lives and protects our environment. We are working to create a healthy future for our families and for generations to come—a world where all people have the resources they need, including wholesome food, clean water and sustainable energy. Making this happen requires organizing people from all over the country to build a large movement with the political power to make our democratic process work. Large numbers of people are a countervailing force to corporations “buying” public policy.

Community Organizers

Paid/ Part Time, Internships, Temporary

Food and Water Watch is an international non-profit advocacy group that has fought for clean water, safe food, and a healthy environment since 2005. We’ve worked to stop secret international trade deals, stop the overuse of antibiotics on factory farms, keep our water supplies public, label GMOs, and a host of other crucial issues. We are currently working towards passing an indefinite BAN of fracking in Maryland state, before the moratorium expires next year.

The duties of the Community Organizer will be to educate the public on critical consumer and environmental issues and to help build strength in numbers to effect policy changes. We offer leadership training and advancement opportunities for qualified individuals and ensure that all staff develop valuable political advocacy skills.
